Foster Care and Beyond: An Action Plan for Meeting the Needs of Abused and Neglected Children in Oregon,
January 2008.
Mission
Juvenile Rights Project, Inc. is an Oregon non-profit corporation founded for the purpose of providing high quality legal services to children and families, without the means to retain counsel, through individual representation in juvenile proceedings, and through class-wide advocacy in the courts and legislature.
Who We Are
 |
JRP is the state's leading champion for children and youth in the courtroom and in the community. As Oregon's only law firm devoted exclusively to representing young people,
JRP wins immediate improvements in the lives of individual children who've been abused and neglected. After identifying system-wide problems, JRP works with partners throughout the state to implement policy-level solutions. By providing expert training and technical assistance, organizing for administrative and legislative victories and representing individual children and young people as a class. JRP uses every tool available to improve the lives of Oregon's most vulnerable citizens.
|
Defense
The JRP defense unit acts as a children’s public defender firm. JRP attorneys are appointed by the juvenile court to represent children in delinquency, dependency, and termination of parental rights cases at the trial and appellate level.
The defense unit is funded through a contract with the Oregon Public Defenses Services Commission, (OPDSC).
Advocacy
The advocacy unit of JRP functions like a children’s legal services office. It is staffed by attorneys and a social worker, in order to have an inter-disciplinary approach. The advocacy unit provides information, individual and class representation, administrative and legislative advocacy, technical assistance and training throughout the state.
The advocacy unit is funded through professional services contracts, grants, donations and attorney fee awards. It does not receive funding from the Legal Services Corporation, from filing fees, or from the Campaign for Equal Justice.
